John began this short 260-mile shakedown cruise from Wolf Creek Dam in Kentucky on June 6th and was stopped on June 18th by the lockmaster at the dam on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN . John returned to the dam on July 9th and was allowed to pass through, completing his Upper Cumberland journey at Shelby Park in Nashville. This trip helped prepare John for a longer historic journey in September 2016.
The Upper Cumberland River helped John get back into rowing shape while testing out his boat and new gps/communications equipment. He enjoyed being back on the water in the peace of nature and invited fellow-paddlers to meet up with and travel alongside him in the personal watercraft of their choosing during this journey.
