At Dauphin Island Marina - tides, oil and exhaustion

posted: Jun 13, 11:37 AM

The morning started out slow and then the winds picked up and shifted to the northeast. At one point John was sailing at about 6.5 mph!

He is at Dauphin Island Marina now. The people are friendly and he was able to get something to eat at the restaurant. The marina is busy, as oil spotting boats come in to refuel. Mobile Bay has been closed to fishing and John did see some oil as he passed the gap (created by Katrina) in Dauphin Island.

Although the weather is great right now, high tide was at 12:30pm and he doesn’t think he will be able to cross into Mobile Bay until the next high tide tomorrow morning. He is exhausted and unsure if he will be able to continue east due to the oil.
